Why so long to load

OK so the Mac was suddenly taking a really long time
to get to the login screen!
So after a long wait it finally got to the login screen, so I got onto iChat and had a quick chat with Michael Potter from the formaceyesonly podcast, so here's what he said, to start off with startup in Safe mode, now I thought oh now here we go the windows safe mode, but no it seems not, when I booted into safe mode everything still seemed to be there available to me, but what it also does is clear some caches which may well be causing issues, and he was spot on, by simply booting into safe mode and then rebooting, it fixed the issue, now the first reboot was a little while but after that fine. So if your Mac is taking a long time try booting into safe mode first to see if this simple procedure fixes it.
Get into safe mode by holding down the Shift key when starting your machine, it may take a while to get to the login but it's worth the wait.
